The most colorful tourist destinations around the world



Who does not love colors right? We find ourselves surrounded with splashes of wonderful colors whether we are in our homes or traveling throughout the world. There are some unique tourist places that have an aesthetic essence of color surrounding their streets and buildings which make them look serene. So check out this list of the most colorful places on earth:- 

1) Old Havana, Cuba
This city is one of the 15 municipalities forming Havana, Cuba. It has the second highest population density of all the cities in Cuba. You will find quaint cobblestone squares, vintage cars, historic forts, architectural gems and many restored buildings which are beautifully painted with various varieties of colors there. The city is as pretty as a pastel colored picture!

2) Great Barrier Reef, Australia
The Great Barrier Reef is located on the 2,300 km long coast of Queensland. When you go snorkeling or scuba diving in the sea, you will definitely find soft and hard corals (which have 600 different varieties), which make the sea look like it has an underwater rainbow.  That's definitely a sight to see when in Australia. 

3) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 
This city is the capital of Brazil. There are colorful "favela" houses painted in different colors in various neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro. Santa Teresa is the most colorful of them all. You can find many Instagram worthy photogenic spots throughout the city. The houses are stacked together and painted with vibrant colors that make them look like a visual mural.  

4) Bo Kaap, Cape Town
This is an area in Cape Town of South Africa which was formerly known as the Malay Quarters. It is said that the people living in Bo Kaap painted their houses in lively colors as an expression of individualism. The area is known for it's brightly colored houses and cobbled streets. You can take a walk around the area as it is just at a 5 minute walk from the city center (the main tourist area).

5) Little India, Singapore
It is an ethnic district in Singapore across from China Town. It is like a small rainbow street full of street sellers. The balconies of houses are also colored with well suited colors. You can find Hindu and Buddhist temples in that area and also many small malls and markets. 

6) Rainbow Mountain, Peru
The Mountains are called Vinicunca or Winikunka, situated in the Andes mountains of Peru. The rainbow colors in the mountains is mainly due to weathering and mineralogy. It is a three hour drive from Cusco to reach the mountains. The hike to these mounatins can last from 3.5  hours to 4 hours maximum. The hike to see this sight is worth experiencing if you find good weather and also, it's incredibly crowded. 

7) Seven colored Earths, Mauritius
There are geological formations in the Chamarel plains of RiviΓ¨re Noire District in south-western Mauritius.They are practically seven sand dunes made of seven distinct colors. It's situated inside of the Chamarel Geo park which is open from 8:30 am to 5 pm. It's tickets cost around $8 per person while they also offer tours from $53 per person. The park also has a waterfall and you can also get to see tortoises. 

8) Rainbow row, Charleston 
This is a name for the series of 13 colourful historic houses in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. It is the longest cluster of Georgian styled houses. The pastel colored historic houses are located on the East Bay street. It is the city's most photogenic feature.You can visit plantation houses and French Quarters while walking around. 

9) Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA
It's the largest hot spring in the USA and the third largest in the world. You cannot swim in the spring as it is illegal and fatal. The colors in the spring are caused by a species of bacteria called Thermophiles. They are heat loving algae which contain the colorful pigments. 

10) Madurai, India 
Madurai is a profound city in the state of Tamil Nadu, India which has plenty of Hindu temples, the most famous being the Madurai temple (Meenakshi Amman temple). The temple is filled with colorful statues stacked on above another and has a mythological significance. It is a 17th century built temple that has 14 gateway towers; 33,000 sculptures of gods, goddesses and demons and two golden sculptured "vimanas" (an inner sanctum on which the dome of the temple is placed). The sight looks like a massive heap of colors stacked on a hill, it's definitely worth visiting. 

11) Burano, Venice, Italy 
This island in Venice is known for it's picture square brightly colored fishermen's houses. It has various local eateries serving sea food from the lagoons and local butter cookies called "bussolai buranei". This area has a Lace Museum and shops sell local lace products like linen and other clothes. The area is easy to stroll around and is very photogenic. The fishermen's houses in Burano are colored in bright hues so that they could find their way back home when the lagoons were covered in fog. 

12) Brighton, UK
It is a city in England, UK  which has rainbow colored beach huts. If you want to see colors, then Blaker street is the perfect spot for you. Even the terraces are colored in various shades of red, pink, orange, blue etc. The entire road is filled of rainbow colored houses. 



So, here's the list of some of the many colorful places in the world. There are still so many places that are not included in this list and each spot has a story and significance of it's own.  Places like Kampung, Indonesia; Guatape, Columbia; Nepal; Hoi An, Vietnam; Rainbow village, Taiwan; Buenos Aires; Kyoto, Japan; Merida, Mexico; Miami, USA; Notting Hill, London, England; Barcelona, Spain; France; Morocco; Isfahan, Iran; Jodhpur & Jaipur India and many islands in Greece and Italy are also some of the most colourful torist destinations that you can visit.   6. This makes me miss traveling so much! I've been to Little India in Singapore, but it was pretty dark already so I didn't get to see much of the colours. I hope I will next time! Old Havana in Cuba is high on my list. I've heard a lot about it and seen some really great photos!
