Best travel destinations 2020 on a budget



Amazing cheap places to travel in 2020 for backpackers! Here's a list of cheapest places to travel across America, Europe, Asia and Africa. 

I have been researching about how much does it cost for accommodation and dining in all these countries on Google. (I have not personally visited these places.) Hopefully we all will get a chance to start travelling again after the quarantine period ends. 
The cost to arrange transport, stay and dine in these countries may be cheap but you have to find cheap flights from your country to the one you are visiting and of course the visa fees may be paid. You can use the following website for finding cheap flights :

Counties in Asia:

1. Laos 
 It is a South East Asian country which is surrounded by Thailand , Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia. It's capital is the city of Vientiane. The country is filled with French monarchical architecture, tribe settlements and Buddhist monasteries. The country is transversed by the Mekong river. You can visit places like; Mount Phousi, Kuang Si falls, Pha That Luand Vientaine, Buddha park , Pak Ou caves, Wat Xieng Thong , Plain of jars , Patuxai, Vat Phou , Royal palace Luang Prabang, Bolaven Plateau etc. You can shop at the Talat Sao (Morning market). You can get the experience of sleeping in tree huts and a canopy in the jungle. You require maximum $40 per day to stay. 

2. Vietnam 
This is a South East Asian county on the South China Sea. It is known for its rivers, beaches, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities. Hanoi is the capital of this country. You can visit tourist places like Ha Long bay, Cu Chi tunnel, Hoan Kiem lake, marble mountains, Temple of literature etc. You can also visit the town of Phong Nha which specializes in adventure tourism. Vietnam is incredibly cheap and hotel rooms cost as little as $10 which offer a comfortable stay. You have to hardly spend a dollar for the local food. You can stay there for a day just by spending $25-$40 .

3. Thailand 
This South East Asian country is quite popular for it's beaches, ancient ruins, temples of Buddha, and the city Pattaya. But, if you travel in the Northern region of Thailand, you can find accommodations as cheap as $5! You can also live in a hotel with a swimming pool at just $30. Travel in the less touristy places of Bangkok and Chiang Rai region.Visit the Mo Paeng waterfall,Doi Inthanon national park, Doi Suthep Poi national park,Lampang, Wiang, Mae Sai, Nan, Phayao lake etc. The overall cost per day will be $50. 

4. Cambodia
This South East Asian country has low lying plains, the Mekong Delta and Gulf of Thailand coastline. Phnom Penh is it's capital. In the Northwest, there is the Angkor Wat temple of the ancient Khmer empire. You can swing on a hammock in a quiet island of the Koh Rong Sanloem or go river boating and hiking on the Cardamom mountains. You can stay there for a day on maximum $25-$45.

5. Indonesia 
This country is in South East Asia and Oceania. It has more than 17,000 islands. It's capital is Jakarta. There are over 700 regional languages spoken there. Bali is the most famous island but due to increased tourism, it would be crowded and expensive. So, try visiting islands like Java and Lombok or visit Sumatra, Sulawesi, Komodo islands and rural flores. You can see white sand beaches, rainforests and blue flame volcanoes. You can visit the Uluwatu temple, Tanah lot, Borobudur temple, Gili islands, Seminyak, Sacred Monkey forest sanctuary,  Mount Batur etc. 
Maximum bugdet: $20-$50 per day.

Countries in America 

1. Colombia 
This country is situated in the North of South America. It's capital city is Bogota. You can visit both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, the Amazon rain forests and the start of Andes mountains.The Colombian culture is warm and welcoming to the people. Visit the city of Medellin which has palms trees, they are huge and tall. Visit the Catedral de Sal, Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona, Rosario islands, Cocora valley, Lost city, Monserrate, Gold museum , San Andres etc.
Maximum budget per day: $35-$50.

2. Cuba
This country is situated in the Northern Caribbean region. It's capital is Havana. It offers affordable local accommodation but has low internet access. You can see vintage cars and sunny days and enjoy drinking rum and watch Salsa dance.  You must visit places like Old Havana, Malecon, Cayo Largo Del Sur, National Capitol building, Revolution Museum, La Catedral De La Virgen, Topes de Collantes etc. 
Maximum budget per day: $40-$60.

3. Mexico
It is a country in the Southern region of North America which is bordered by the USA. It's national language is Spanish. While this country suffers from reportedly high crime rates and homicide rates, many areas of the country are still safe to visit even for female solo travelers. You can visit tourist places like Archaeological zone of Tulum, Xcaret park, Xel-Ha park, Coba, Bosque de Chapultepec, Historic center of Mexico city to Oaxaca etc. 
Maximum budget per day: $40-$60.

4. Argentina 
This country is located in the Southern half of South America. It's capital is Buenos Aires which has a vibrant cultural life and is famous for the dance form- Tango. You can stay in hostels or dorms with a price as low as $7 or in a hotel room which will cost you $25. You can get a chance to see penguins and whales there. Also, some of the top tourist places are: Perito Moreno Glacier, Aconcagua, La Boca, Recoleta Cemetery, Plaza de Mayo, Devil's throat, Nahuel Huapi lake etc. 
Maximum budget per day: $30-$50.


Countries in Europe 

1. Turkey 
It is located mainly in Western Asia but some of its part is in the Southeastern part of Europe. It's capital is Ankara. It has more than 8000 km coastline. Istanbul is the most famous destination to visit in Turkey. Also places like; Hagia Sophia museum, The Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Topkapi palace museum, Pamukkale, Bosporus, Basilica Cistern, Galata Tower etc are a must visit. 
Maximum budget for a day: $30-$50.

2. Georgia
This country is situated at the intersection of Europe and Asia. It's capital is Tbilisi. It is known for it's diverse architecture and cobblestone streets in the old town. It is one of the countries in Europe to have the lowest crime rates. You must visit the Black Sea, Caucasian Mountain range, Georgia Aquarium,  Rock city gardens, Olympic park, Atlanta Botanical garden, Forsyth park, World of Coca Cola, Piedmont park etc. Some parts of Georgia are cheaper than South East Asia. You can find dorms for $5 and hotel rooms for $20 to stay.
Maximum budget for a day: $20-$45,

3. Romania
This is a South Eastern European country. It's capital is Bucharest. It has medieval towns, ancient churches, Carpathian mountain range and government buildings. The clifftop Bran Castle which is associated with the Dracula legend is located here. You can stay at B&B's for about $30 per night . Also, visit places like; Bran Castle, Peles Castle, Palace of Parliament, Corvin's castle, Salina Turda, Rasnov Citadel, Black church, Poiana Brasov etc.
Maximum budget for a day: $40-$60

4. Greece
This is a country in South Eastern Europe with thousands of islands. It's capital is Athens. A trip to the Greek islands can be surprisingly affordable. Just a little bit of research and planning in advance can land you a great deal. Greece has beautifully decorated streets with flowers, small restaurants and cafes. The top sites to see in Greece are: Acropolis of Athens, Parthenon, Meteora, Plaka, Acropolis museum, Syntagma square, Santorini etc.
Maximum budget for a day: $70-$100. 

5. Ukraine 
This country is in Eastern Europe known for Orthodox churches, Black sea coastline and forested mountains.It's capital is Kyiv. If you avoid remote areas and troubled areas affected by the war with Russia in the southeast part, Ukraine is perfectly fine to visit, however there are areas not to be visited at all costs. Places to visit here are: St, Sophia's cathedral, Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Golden gate, Independence square, The Motherland Monument, Khreschatyk street, Rynok square, St. Miachel's Golden Domed Monastery etc. 
Maximum budget for a day: $25-$40.

Countries in Africa

1. Morocco 
It is a North African country bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It's capital is Rabat. It has a small network of hostels to stay in. You can camp under the Milky Way in the middle of the desert there! It is known for historical down towns and traditional handicrafts. The places to visit there are: Jardin Majorelle, Jama Elf'na Market, Hassan II mosque, Koutoubia, Ouzoud falls, Bahia palace, Toubkal, Todra river, Saadien's tombs etc. 
Maximum budget for a day: $40-$60.

2. Egypt
It is situated in the North east of Africa. It's capital is Cairo. It is known for old monuments, Nile river valley, Giza's pyramids and Ottoman landmarks. This country is nearly crime free and safe. The must visit places are: Giza Necropolis, Valley of the kings, Egyptian museum , Great Sphinx of Giza, Karnak, Luxor Temple, Abu Simbel temples, Philae, Khan-el-Khalili bazaar etc. Dorms are available for $7 and meals can be upto $14.
Maximum budget for a day: $25-$52. 

3. Kenya  
This country is located in the part of East Africa by the Indian Ocean coastline. It's capital is Nairobi. It offers a view of Tanzania's mount Kilimanjaro. You can pay for the safari to Masai Mara. Dorm beds are available for $16 and meals upto $17. Places to visit in Kenya are: Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli National park, Nairobi National park, Tsavo East National park, Mount Kenya, Diani beach, Hell's gate National park etc.
Maximum budget for a day: $39-$52.

4. Zanzibar
It is sitauted on the off coast of East Africa. It's capital is Zanzibar city. The northern villages of Nungwi and Kendwa have wide beaches lined with hotels. You can stay in a hostel or a simple hut/room for $13. Transport will cost you $2-$4. The best time to visit Zanzibar is from June to October. Top sites to see in Zanzibar are: Jozani forest, Zanzibar butterfly center, Pemba island, Changu island, Mnemba island, Kuza cave, Old fort, Nungwi beach, Jambiani beach etc. 
Maximum budget for a day: $25-$52.

  20. There are so many fantastic countries on this list! There are a bunch that I would love to go to like Vietnam, Cuba, Thailand and Colombia. My personal favourite budget travel destination is Poland! I never considered visiting some of the places on this list like Zanzibar though so you've definitely given me places to add to my list!

We have done Chiang Mai and Phuket in Thailand and DaNang in Vietnam and it is amazing how cheap Southeast Asia is :) Also highly recommend Medellin, Colombia and we love Mexico mostly on the Caribbean side. Also Romania was great we also recommend Bulgaria :) We loved Tangier, Morocco but for Egypt we just did a tour instead of staying not sure if we would want to stay in Cairo it was a huge and crazy city :)
