The church is commonly called as Mount Mary but the original extended name is The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount. It is a Roman Catholic Basilica located in the Bandra region of Mumbai, situated on top of a hillock. The church was opened in 1760 when some Jesuit priests from Portugal brought the statue of Virgin Mary to the location and constructed a chapel. The church was rebuilt in 1761. On occasion of this event, the feast of the blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on the first Sunday on 8th September every year, which is also marked as the birthday of Virgin Mary. Many people irrespective of their religion pray here with faith , so that their wishes would be fulfilled. If you get time, visit the church during Christmas eve, it is crowded but a sight to see because it is lit up with lights, candles and Christmas trees.
